Welcome back to me- this is the first blog I have had chance to write for a while. Crazy busy, mostly with The Link App but I posted a video (filmed while on this Lake District tri) if you would like to know more bout what I got up to and why. Anyway, I have missed this and can’t wait to share more of my life, advice and adventures with you.
Long story short, I needed to take a break. I had a weekend plus the Friday so I opted for one of my favourite UK spots…the Lake District. This time opting to stay at Beech Hill Hotel and Spa.
The room was great- amazing views, spacious bathroom with a corner whirlpool. One of the first hotels that I’ve visited that had a coffee press in the room. Very big and comfy bed. The room was quiet and we didn’t hear any noise from other rooms for both nights we stayed. Circling back to the amazing views, you are right on the edge of Lake Windermere- take a look at this…
We were just a four mile drive to Bowness, which is the typical tourist area and not usually my favourite part of the Lakes for that reason. However, it is where the boat trip departs from so we ventured there. If you haven’t seen it before it is a lovely area with quaint cobbled streets. Just try and avoid weekends as it is even busier. We took a boat from Bowness to Ambleside and back. You could have got off there but we didn’t have time. I love all things water and the stillness of the lake against a backdrop of mountains and rolling clouds is quite a sight. Well worth the £11 or so it cost me. Be warned it can get quite chilly out there so wrap up. There are also shorter trips you could do.
Now to one of my favourite bits the spa – amazing design and spacious spa for the size of the hotel. It had 2 treatment rooms using Elemis branded products. I had a massage to chip away at the stress of running a business, I found it was given to high standard and the therapist struck a good balance between friendly but not engaging in small talk while you’re trying to drift away into tranquillity. I found it very relaxing.
Without a doubt the highlight of the spa is the outside hot tub that overlooks Windermere. Again incredible views, even in the rain. This is open until 9pm and whatever the weather come rain or shine.
Omg the food here is amazing. Here is ‘steak and chips’ (tuna steak and sweet potato fries & peppercorn sauce)
Another thing I am a fan of is food. This trip didn’t disappoint. They have a restaurant called Burlington’s and the food is delicious. Friendly host plays well to the local charm of the place. Good value for a hotel, location and view. Wine was well priced and good quality. Menu changed daily so you could eat at the restaurant more than once on your stay without getting bored or unable to find something you fancied eating.

Views from this walk reminded me that you don’t always have to get on ✈️ to see something beautiful!
Out & about – there is lots to do particularly for walkers. We went to one called Orrest Head, which starts opposite Windermere station and is a gentle walk lasting less than 45 mins total. It gave a great perspective from the top about the lakeside we had just come from too.
We visited a farm shop on the way to the motorway just past Kendal called Low Sizergh Barn. The food was good if a little pricey. I bought some fresh milk from there and it was really good. The fact it came from a vending machine was the tech extra helping that now makes this my favourite milk.
Head over to my YouTube channel ‘Miss Lauren Riley’ to see a vlog of this too!
I think the Lake District are well worth a visit for a short stay or weekend and Beech Hill gives the perfect location and view to make you feel you’ve really got away from it all. A lovely break and that spa/ room view will stay with me!
